Pandan Red Tea
Rich red tea, floral citrus, fresh sticky rice, toasted grains, savory sweetness, hints of cacao and brown sugar
About This Tea
This batch of Sun-dried red tea from the ancient tea trees of Doi Wawee in Northern Thailand’s Chiangrai Province is blended and aged with pandanus leaves and lemongrass for a restorative and flavorful infusion. In Thailand, pandanus and lemongrass are commonly combined for a rejuvenating herbal tea. When we pair these herbs with red tea, the flavor and energy is balanced and sumptuous. The aroma and flavor of these herbs and the strength of this red tea present themselves patiently over the course of several infusions.
Lemongrass is a common herb grown throughout the tropics and used in tea blends and cuisines. Our Thai grown lemongrass is an uncommon cut above others and has a complex and distinctive citrus, spicy and floral bouquet. Rarely used in western tea blends, pandanus leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius) are widely used in various Southeastern Asian cuisines, folk remedies, cosmetics and herbal tonics. Pandanus leaves infuse a sweet, floral, and slightly nutty flavor into foods, enhancing their taste and aroma. They are believed to have various health benefits, including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Pandanus leaf tea is commonly consumed for its calming and stress-relieving effects. It is also used as a digestive aid and to promote overall well-being.
Pandanus leaves have a long history of use in traditional folk remedies. They are often used externally for their cooling and soothing properties, applied to the skin to alleviate itching and inflammation. In some cultures, pandanus leaves are believed to have antimicrobial and anti-parasitic properties and are used in natural remedies for various ailments.
Pandanus blends well with lemongrass, red tea and Pu’er tea and is believed to relieve tension, hangovers, headaches, and its compress is used in traditional Thai herbalism to relieve contusions and bruising. Most taxis in Bangkok use the pandanus leaves as air fresheners.
